He was a faculty member of the 1997 NPPA Flying Short Course and the 2000 Mountain Workshop at Western Kentucky University. He was the only person on the 2003 America 24/7 project to coordinate a state, shoot images and be a senior editor.
Jessmore, a graduate of Central Michigan University where he majored in Journalism, received the 2000 Distinguished Journalism Alumni Award. He has been an adjunct professor at CMU, teaching photojournalism since 2001.
He is a three-term past president of the Michigan Press Photographers Association and a 20-year board member.
The Journal's chief photographer, who was born in Saginaw, Michigan, worked in his hometown for 14 years. That work included being chief photographer at The Saginaw News, a sister newspaper of The Flint Journal.
The Frankenmuth, Michigan, resident married Lisa in 1982. They have two sons and a daughter.
